Hello all, welcome to Up Down Left Right A Start, or TBC (That Bloody Cheat) for short.
What is the blog for? Well it is a small, informal, journalistic blog discussing games of ages past, and a few of today's gems when we're having a slow week. Although mostly dedicated to Retro gaming, any computer gaming is a good topic on this blog. There is no particular tone to this blog. I'd prefer it to be mostly cathartic, but it will inevitably breed a few rants and a little negativity. It depends on who is writing it really.
This blog is a current work in progress. I'm hoping this will be a blog of many hands, and will improve through time. What I'm looking for are writers, who are enthusiastic about gaming, and Retro gaming in particular. I have particular specialisms, but I don't cover the whole range of consoles and mediums, not even the consoles I have or have had am I a particular expert.
But without other blogger co-writers I'll only be able to cover Megadrive (Genesis), Gamecube, PS1, and PS2 with much frequency, perhaps a few bits on the others. I really need a half-dozen or so writers who have grown up with old Nintendo consoles, Amigas, Commodores (I have a bit of knowledge of the Spectrum, but not much), Dreamcast (Saturn, perhaps) and any other console considered "Retro". Also anyone with similar experiences as I is welcome.
Mostly, writers are encouraged to write articles about old consoles or games featured monthly/weekly, with a review, a discussion about a particular aspect of it that was innovative, or a general rant/wax lyrical about the subject. There's a lot of freedom here.
On a slow week where there isn't exactly anything stopping you from writing something more up to date. Doesn't even have to be a slow week. Nothing is particularly off the agenda, but there is plenty of media existing to discuss modern works.
So, if you're interested, contact me. My email is the_shadow_of_fate@hotmail.com. Tell me a bit about yourself, your interests, the consoles you grew up with, favourite games, and all importantly, I'd like a sample entry, something you would post in the blog. An article, a rant, anything to do with a Retro or modern game (although preferably retro). if I think it is up to scratch, you're in. Not sure how I add writers, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
So,it should be interesting!
